Jetting

Jetting

Jetting implies a flow of water gushing or shooting out from an orifice, pipe, nozzle, or even a drill, with some velocity behind it.

The simplest form of jetting would be to connect a water hose to a section of pipe, position this vertically to the ground, and simply turn on the water. The force of the water coming out of the pipe end would wash away the earth or sands, making a hole in the ground, while simultaneously forcing the loosened earth down in the hole and up over the top.

As the soil is washed out, the pipe would be lowered into the ground until the desired depth is reached—where groundwater could then be pumped out of the subsurface.

This, in simple principle, is how jetting is accomplished.
